Whoa, all these words! They weren’t here last time I looked.
I must say, Degur makes quite a convincing argument for his cause here. First grade populism.
And he’s just as dastardly in the last panel as I imagined it when it was without dialogue. 😀
Oh god I’m glad you came back to see the words. XD I still can’t believe I was that dumb that I uploaded the page to the queue, and then walked away without previewing the post. Went and thought “Ahhh, it’ll be fine. What could go wrong?”
I’m a writer. How do I not know this pattern.
Uhoh. I sense “purges” about to take place….
A long standing question I’ve been wondering for a while; what are the masks made of? it seems WAYYYYY too small to be actual Tekk bone… some form of ceramic?
Purges? Naaah, this is probably just part of the usual festivities. A bit of excitement and rabble-rousing to wake everyone up towards the end (ok, probably not!).
I wonder how Jacind is going to worm his way out of this one?
Ahhhh the ritual mob rally and the pitchforking of those we don’t like the face of! How we look forward to that every year.
(I have some friends who probably would if that were a thing, admittedly…)
They’re cast from the skulls of the runt baby tekk that are occasionally sacrificed at Crater’s Edge, which doesn’t happen very often, so it’s rather special to get one small enough. My initial idea was that they were just really small baby skulls that were taken apart and made into masks, but lately I’ve been wondering myself if they could be fashioned from ceramic or something.
Or maybe not. Maybe they are just bones like I first thought.
Heck, not conclusively certain at this exact moment! When it comes to tiny details, I’m an indecisive person at best and might possibly never really know. But either way: tekk babies. That’s the absolute certain secret ingredient.
Don’t forget, you are dealing with an alien ecosystem here that probably has all kinds of interesting materials to work with. They could be skulls, but then worked on with plant and mineral mixtures. The sap of some plant could do it alone, or maybe mixed with some soil to form a kind of epoxy. Applied to the skull, it could soak in and dry, making the bone even harder, denser and more durable.
Heck, even applying a white clay and firing it could do the trick, with a little rubbing down afterwards. Apply a glaze, and there is the ceramic you want–totally within the technological capabilities of your desert dwellers. Witness the Hopi and Pueblo people in my state (New Mexico). A lot of them still live in the community adobe dwellings (good example: http://meade1220.edublogs.org/my-home-the-pueblo-of-malpais/), and bake bread and fire their pottery in the same ovens (i.e., see http://www.legendsofamerica.com/nm-taospueblo2.html and http://www.scenicusa.net/112712.html and the picture on http://www.bizjournals.com/albuquerque/print-edition/2012/02/03/exhibit-explores-policy-impact-on.html)
‘Tis true. Lots of ways that it could work. Thanks for the references on possibilities, there. 🙂
coniving arrogent son of a…. want to see degur skinned >.<
Good. =D Me too.
Still trying to figure out if I can fit it in without completely derailing the plot, but alas, it looks doubtful.
Seems like you need nothing more than just saying loud and clear what everyone thinks but keep secret to call for a rebillion. The mob will do all the rest of the work.
Haha, alas, the truth is less that I’m being deep and profound and more that I’m just an idiot. =P I uploaded the wrong file by accident and forgot to check before I went to bed. It’s all fixed now.
I do appreciate the vote of confidence, though!
Haha, well, at least I can say that even without the speech bubbles, one could understand what’s going on that page 🙂
i was too late, noooo , the first panel without the speechbubbles would had been great.
So many detailed faces so many impression in there:D
*sharpen his pitchfork* where is the witch we want to burn… wait wrong comic. where is the kantreska!
It really was adorable. Maybe Meghan would like to upload the bubble-less panel 1 for all of us. It contains a wide variety of tikedi expressions, mostly skeptic-horror, and would also make a great wallpaper in my opinion 😛
I suppose I could post the blank version… =D
Well that’s pretty awesome to hear. =P That’s actually supposed to be a mark of a well-drawn comic if the art carries the story as well just on its own as it does with the text attached. Hurrah, I must be learning something by drawing all of these pages!
thanks, for this New years gift, it’s a better gift than from my neighbourhood, with the damn smoke poisoning last night. ^^
my cats had sleeped under me in my bed, claws in my back :p
Oh no! That sounds awful. D: I aim to please, though, and especially if it helps make up for a rotten time. Poor you and kitties.
Happy new year! Happi(er), at least, for sure. 🙂
