Wow, that was a lot of work. This place was, however, sorely in need of an overhaul. I needed something cleaner, and easier to update, and less cluttered. I think I succeeded on all fronts and I hope I didn’t break anything in the process. If you do find anything that doesn’t quite work, let me know, would you?

I did have to remove some things that I’m sure will, actually, be missed. The first was the encyclopedia. While it was a cool idea in the beginning, over time I just found it impossible for me to keep up to date, and so I finally got tired of it hanging over my head. I feel a story should be able to stand on its own merits anyway, so none of that information was necessary, per se. Still, if anyone else feels they want to pick up that project and continue it – I know there are sites out there designed for wikis and the like – I do still have all of the content from it saved offline, and I’d hook you up with it and give you my blessing.

I also streamlined the wallpapers section. There were a few things in there that just weren’t up to my current standards of quality, and I wanted to keep fanart out of it. I hope to produce more for that section as time permits.

For the rest it’s as you see. And… I’m exhausted. XP

There’s more to come in the next few weeks and months now that the new site is up and running. Look forward to a few more surprises. 🙂

I’m just not having a good year for this. x_x

For those of you who have read the author bio, you know that I have a feline helper minion named Aleksi. He’s been my constant companion for three years and an all around delight.

Until now!

This year, this past weekend, as a birthday gift to me to surprise me when I came home from visiting my parents, he decided that it would be wise to swallow something entirely inedible, not just partially as he sometimes does (for example, feathers off his toys that pass right through but give me a heart attack). No, this time was going to be a real show. A feat of stomach strength. This time he wanted to truly prove what he was made of!

Alas. Whatever it was (I’m not brave enough to dissect the culprit, yet), it unfortunately won the battle and instead he wound up with it blocking his intestines.

Not to be thwarted by a miscalculation, however, he is now using the mishap as a way to demand all of my attention for the next week while he heals from a very expensive birthday gift of emergency surgery. Again, just to prove that he is the king of thoughtful, he also made sure to thwart every attempt the vets made to put an Elizabethan collar on him, finding ever more ingenious ways to remove it until they just stopped bothering, and so now my roommate and I have to take shifts making sure he doesn’t lick his wounds. I occasionally apply a make-shift soft collar that he tolerates, but by and large, he’s going to need babysitting until he mends, and that… kind of gets in the way of comic work. It’s tough enough having to go to work.

But he just wants to make sure he spends the maximum amount of time with his favorite humans, because he just loves us that much.

I suppose this is what I get for not paying him for his “employment” with me.

….

….But no, seriously, I’ve kind of spent the last four days stressed out of my gourd. Haven’t even started the next page when I should be half-way through, because I was too busy making sure he’d recover. I love this little fluffball, even when he bites off more than he should have chewed.

Hopefully next week he’ll be robust enough that I can get back to work here?

Updates for this one pop up from time to time on my Tumblr.

I hope this is the last time this year that something like this happens. Sorry again, guys. You deserve cookies for your patience.

First, thank you guys for being so understanding and patient. I may hate taking breaks, but in retrospect, I’m glad I did. I can’t go into details of what happened, but I definitely needed to take the time and handle it. That was made all that much easier by your words of support. <3 If I haven't told you lately how cool I think you all are, then I'm going to do it now. You guys are the coolest. Thanks again. Now back to the story! I've already got the next page just about ready. I wanted to make sure it was there for you guys come Monday. See you back here then. 🙂

I might as well commit to this out loud. The more warning the better, I suppose.

Prophecy of the Circle will not be updated this coming week.

I really hate taking breaks, but there’s been a very difficult situation that’s cropped up suddenly. People close to me who I care about very much are hurting right now and I need to turn my attention to being there when I’m needed.

I know you guys understand. You’ve always been great for that. I’ll aim to be back to work and have a new page for June 16th. For right now I just need to put it all on pause and concentrate my energies elsewhere.

Thanks. <3 And be careful and safe, all of you, especially in any of your travels.

Haha, why do I always do that? I’m always so terribly certain that taking a vacation is going to mean that somehow I keep working, and in fact, I keep expecting that somehow I’ll work five times harder than I normally do. I apologize that there wasn’t anything to show here. I did actually get a ton sorted out behind the scenes and a bunch of important updates have been started. There are footholds where there weren’t any before. The problem is that none of you can see what I’ve been working on at all. Even if you were following my Tumblr (which I started awkwardly using as a journal as well; if you ever wondered exactly how mundane a person I am, there’s your source) you’ll have to take my word for it that I did more than just play old video games, build Ikea furniture, and draw the very occasional bit of fanart for my Tumblr.

…although I suppose playing video games and drawing fanart is…. what a vacation is supposed to be..

All right. Now I’m confused.

At any rate. Things and stuff. I am indeed working on them. Secret projects for ProtC and whatnot.

You will see.

For now, back to bumbling and stumbling my way through the story! Alas, the first page probably has fewer answers than you were all hoping for, considering the confusing chaotic mess that our heroes-so-to-speak had to deal with when I left off…. and Kirie is probably not the character you were hoping to see first thing. Bear with me.

Now before I go, two things.

First, some of you have been donating to Prophecy of the Circle using the Paypal button over the past few months, and I want to tell you how incredibly grateful I am for any and all of the support you’ve been giving me. It was enough all together that when I needed to replace a bunch of my paints recently, I could! And those aren’t cheap colors. They add up quickly when more than one of them runs dry at the same time (and let me tell you, yellow ochre gets a serious workout in my set). Thank you! That is really, really cool! I love you guys. 🙂 I need to say that! You need to know. You are very cool people.

Second, on the order of paying it forward, there’s someone else who needs a hand. If you remember A Mysterious Light in the fanart gallery, and Kirie’s Discovery (which I neglected to post in the fanart gallert; d’oh! I’m a bit behind there… and elsewhere..) the artist of both of those pieces, Andalar, is in need of some extra funds to replace his aging computer. If you’re interested at all, he’s commissionable for extremely reasonable prices. There’s a journal entry with more information over here, at his DeviantArt page.

Again, it’s good to be back! Always is. I hope you guys enjoy the next chunk of the story. 🙂

… but unfortunately I need to go on one. Every once in a while, just like with any job (even if this one is a lot more entertaining than anything I do to earn the rent), a vacation is needed. You have my sincerest apologies that this comes at a cliffhanger ending. I was honestly hoping and planning on being able to push one more scene out before I had to take a holiday from Prophecy of the Circle, but that last set of pages was actually a lot more difficult to draw and write and especially to plan than I imagined it would be and it rather stressed me out and drained me dry. If you imagine that each project I work on comes with a built in battery… this one’s not giving me any more wiggle room. I have kicked it into restarting for the last time unless I give it a rest, and the message on the proverbial screen inside my head is a very clear “Stop pushing buttons. Drop that pencil. Turn it off. Plug it in. Recharge. Go.” that refuses to budge.

Still, it’s been over a year (I do believe?) since the last time I had to take a real break, so that’s not bad. 🙂 I wish my laptop came with that kind of lifespan between recharges.

So yes. I’m taking a month. It’s always been enough to get me refreshed and ready to go for another bout of storytelling, and I’m certain this will be no different. Look for new pages on March 24th, come hell or high water (although where I live, high water is likely to simply be drifts of snow and I can deal with that), where we find out if we do indeed need a new protagonist. The future is unclear.

You can also check back in between if you’re keen, because I might be able to post some extra things here and there throughout the month. If I do, they’ll be mentioned on my Twitter as well. If you have an interest in any of my other non-Prophecy of the Circle doodles, there’s always my Tumblr to keep an eye on.

If anyone ever wanted to see what my comic pages look like before they’re finished, there are a couple of posts about it on my Tumblr.

Last year I posted a page showing off what the pencil work looks like.

Today I posted the inks and colors, without the text, for this week’s page!

Those are the major stages of comic-making, not counting the first step, wherein I make incoherent notes about the script in OmmWriter and then proceed to ignore them almost completely… =P

Wow, about time I posted something here. I’m just not very good at talking about myself, am I?

Annnnnd I’m still not gonna. Here! No, this is something a reader of mine’s been doing, and it is so very, very, very cool. I have to show it off. There’s Eika and Koro cosplay! And it’s magnificent! =D

Tim over on DeviantArt and I have been talking back and forth for a while to get the details right, but here are the results. That is a fantastic interpretation if I do say so, and I am so flattered. So, so flattered. Go see! Go see! It’s so cool. If cosplay is your kind of thing and DeviantArt is your kind of place, I recommend giving him a watch, too. It’s worth it, and he’s a fantastic fellow. He’s also got a Tumblr, if that’s your platform of choice.

So We Begin The Fire and the Wind The Stone and the Water

In a real book with a real ISBN and everything, no less. 🙂

There was a national short story contest this summer that Polar Expressions Publishing put on, and while I’ve always been rusty at writing short fiction, I figured I’d give it a try and see if I couldn’t shake some of that rust off. With a 750 word count limit, it was a real tight challenge. That’s so short that it’s just about postcard fiction, and a heck of a squeeze for fitting ideas into. All the same, I just got notification that I can, in fact, occasionally keep things short and still have some measure of success! Final voting isn’t until December, but I’ve passed the first round, which means I’m in the top third of submissions, and so my story Outlast is going to make it into The Sun Shall Rise, the printed book for this year. Considering my goal was simply to test my mettle, that’s good enough for me, just as-is. =D

So huzzah and hurrah! For the first time ever, I’m going to have some words in a book. What a nifty feeling. 🙂

The last you guys heard of me, I was moving. Now I’m almost all moved in, thank goodness. I’m still juggling my day job and now the daily unpacking of boxes and rearranging of the things (also introducing two cats to one another, which is always a joy but never simple), but it’s getting easier and faster. I even got a comic done for this week! I was actually completely out of comic pages that were done ahead of time, so I had to put this one together in a matter of hours just today. I apologize if there are a few more typos than usual. ^^;

I’ll also be working on getting back to responding to comments like I used to. I miss that. It still might be a week or so before I’ve got my life and home sorted, so bear with me if it takes some time between responses, but now I can at least consider conversation as a possibility. I’ve missed you guys. 🙂

There were a few glitches on the site that popped up while I was away. Sorry about those. I think I’ve fixed them for now, although if I haven’t or something else is wrong, let me know. I appreciate it. =D
